Noć tvrđava 2026. – Night of Fortresses Goes Green

The City of Korčula once again participated in the Night of Fortresses – Night of Fortresses Goes Green initiative, which connects cultural heritage, sustainable tourism, and awareness of the importance of preserving fortification heritage.

EN The programme took place on 8 and 9 May 2026 in the historic Old Town of Korčula, where visitors had the opportunity to explore the city’s rich defensive and cultural history through cultural and educational activities.
As part of the programme, open days were organized at the Korčula Town Museum, the town towers, and the Marco Polo Interpretation Centre, while a video screening in Revelin Tower presented the history of the city and its cultural traditions.
A special highlight of the programme was the new exhibition concept “Love and War” in Revelin Tower, dedicated to the traditional Moreška sword dance. The exhibition was created in cooperation with young artists Andro Tasovac and Paula Petković, with the support of the Korčula Town Museum, the City of Korčula, KORA agency, and local cultural associations HGD Sveta Cecilija and KUD Moreška Korčula.
The exhibition programme was additionally expanded into the streets of the Old Town through the “Korčula Once Upon a Time” open-air exhibition, featuring historical photographs displayed on canvases throughout the town.
The event successfully connected cultural heritage interpretation, contemporary artistic expression, and sustainable cultural tourism, bringing fortification heritage closer to both residents and visitors.

The City of Korčula is organizing this event as part of the FORTIC project – From remains Of the war to the aRchiTecture of peace in the cross-border area of Italy-Croatia, which aims to strengthen the role of Adriatic cross-border cultural heritage by recognizing and valorizing European best practices in fortified heritage management.
